Pompeo’s Policy Legacy, U.S. and Taiwan Officials Meet in Provence

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo issued a statement Jan. 9 announcing the lifting of self-imposed restrictions in U.S. relations with Taiwan. Subsequently, U.S. diplomatic officials met with Taiwan officials abroad in several locations. Since the Biden administration took office, the Taipei Office in Provence introduced on February 18 that U.S. Consul General Kristen K. Grauer visited the office in Marseille on February 17 and met with Director Xin Jizhi.

The introduction of the Taipei Office in Provence said, “Coinciding with the Lunar New Year, Taiwan Office in Provence Director Xin Jizhi was honored to welcome Ms. Grauer, the U.S. Consul General in Marseille, in person on February 17, 110, to exchange views on cooperation in the fields of trade, Culture and Education.”

The statement said, “As the auspicious words of the Spring Festival couplet displayed by the two in the group photo, let us look forward to the continued efforts of Taiwan and the United States in the common pursuit of a freer, more democratic and prosperous world!” The two also posed for a photo holding a Spring Festival couplet with the words “Pursuit of Freedom and Democracy” printed on it.
