Former U.S. President Donald Trump (Trump) is considering joining a new social media platform. However, given his experience of being banned by big tech companies such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube last month, Trump said on Wednesday (17) that he might create his own platform.
On Wednesday evening, Trump said in an interview with the conservative U.S. media station “Newsmax” that he was weighing his options after Twitter shut down his account. It was his first public appearance and interview with the media since leaving office.
“We’re in talks with some people and there’s another option, which is to start our own website. Because we have more people than anybody else. I mean, you can really start your own website.” Trump added that he is considering setting up his own platform.
Trump mentioned that “they really want me on Parler,” though he speculated that Parler “can’t handle” the traffic he would bring to the site. He noted that he has more followers on Twitter than all of Parler’s users, so it’s “technically impossible” to join Parler as a platform.
Trump also cited the interference he suffered from Twitter after the massive fraud in the 2020 presidential election. “They flagged all kinds of [content], almost everything you saw was blue tagged, everything I said was flagged, and it was shameful,” he said.
Trump also said Twitter had become so boring that millions of people were leaving. But before his account was shut down, he had one of the most followed Twitter accounts and was generating huge amounts of traffic.
Earlier this month, Jason Miller, one of Trump’s advisers, said the former president is deciding how to re-emerge on social media.
“I’m hopeful that we’ll see this president back on social media,” Miller told Breitbart News on Feb. 6, “whether it’s joining an existing platform, or creating his own new platform. Whether it’s joining an existing platform or creating his own new platform, there are a lot of different options, and they have a lot of different meetings in that regard.”
