However, the Guangzhou Municipal Consumer Committee and Foshan Municipal Consumer Committee jointly released a test report on shoes for the elderly. The report shows that among 40 types of shoes for the elderly, 8 samples failed the phthalate test, and one of them exceeded the limit by 302 times. According to Tencent News, studies have shown that phthalates can induce an inflammatory response in human liver cancer cells at very low exposure concentrations, thus increasing the risk of liver cancer.
Prior to this, the Qingdao Consumer Protection Association in Shandong Province had announced the results of a sample test of 40 batches of senior shoes in 2019, of which 34 shoes were detected as toxic and carcinogenic substances nonylphenol polyoxyethylene ether.
