Worse than Pelosi and Schumer! McConnell poll only 18% left

Breitbart News reports that polls show that Mitch McConnell’s (R-Ky.) approval rating has dropped to 18 percent.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-Ky.) favorability is falling, according to a survey by data intelligence firm Morning Consult and Politico magazine, the report said.

The survey, conducted Feb. 12-15 among 1,987 registered voters, asked respondents to rate a number of prominent politicians, including the minority leader.

A majority (64 percent) had a negative view of McConnell, while 18 percent approved. His disapproval rating is higher than that of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), with 53 percent giving the 80-year-old speaker a negative rating, compared with 37 percent who approve.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) also fared better than McConnell, with 42 percent saying no and 31 percent saying yes.

The survey has a margin of error of +/- 2 percent.

The report describes how McConnell has been at odds with Trump and the Republican base in the wake of the presidential election and subsequent congressional battles, particularly in his opposition to a $2,000 check to the American people in the recent coronavirus (CDC) relief package.

Although the Kentucky congressman voted for acquittal in the Democrats’ second attempt to convict the former president, he gave an inflammatory speech on Saturday, telling colleagues “there is no question that President Trump bears actual and moral responsibility for provoking the events of Jan. 6.

His comments drew the ire of Trump allies, many of whom warned that the party would not have prevailed without President Trump.

Trump responded to McConnell this week by slamming him as “a gloomy, brooding, smirkless political hack.”

He said, “With a political ‘leader’ like Senator Mitch McConnell at the helm, the Republican Party can never be respected or strong again.”

According to Breitbart News, a poll by Opinion YouGov/Economist affirmed Trump’s standing in the Republican Party .

Trump’s approval rating in the Opinion YouGov/Economist poll, conducted Feb. 6-9, was 75 percent and 87 percent among Republican Party members , with only 12 percent holding an unfavorable view of the 45th president.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is arguably the most powerful Republican today, but he is viewed very unfavorably by members of the Republican Party.

The poll found that only 36 percent of respondents said they had a favorable opinion of McConnell, and 51 percent said they had no favorable opinion .

Similarly, a survey released last week by Mason-Dixon Polling & Strategy showed that a majority of Kentuckians, 53 percent, disapprove of McConnell’s job performance.
