Pedestrians slowly make their way through snow-covered streets after a heavy snowfall in Seattle, Washington, U.S., Feb. 13.
Texas has been hit by a winter storm since Feb. 11, and massive power outages across the state have affected the lives of millions and put lives at risk. White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Tuesday (16) that President Joe Biden is “closely tracking” the states severely affected by the winter storm, but he has not personally contacted the governors of those states.
The National Weather Service predicts more rain, sleet and snow in West Texas until 9 p.m. CST on the 16th, and more than 3 million homes are still without power.
“President Biden has been receiving my reports, as I have documented, and getting regular updates on the storm.” Psaki said at a White House press briefing Tuesday afternoon.
Psaki also informed the media that over the weekend, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) called and asked Biden to declare a federal emergency in the state so that storm victims would receive federal assistance. Biden’s homeland security adviser, Liz Sherwood-Randall, spoke with Abbott.
Biden and his Family spent a wonderful Presidents’ Day weekend at Camp David, a presidential resort in Maryland, on Saturday, where Biden and his granddaughter played the fun racing game Mario Kart race.
During the Camp David holiday, Biden signed the Texas state of emergency declaration. Pusaki said Biden will continue to “monitor the situation in Texas very closely”.
So far, Biden has not disrupted his schedule to respond to the disaster. On Tuesday night, he attended a town hall meeting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, hosted by CNN.
In response to the energy crisis in Texas, Fox News host Tucker Carlson said that while power outages have been common in states like California, they are surprising in Texas. The state has plenty of natural gas and should have plenty of electricity, but right now Texas is in a situation like someone starving to death in a grocery store – it can only be intentional, and that’s what’s happening in Texas.
Instead of celebrating and benefiting from the state’s abundant natural resources, Carlson explained, politicians have taken the trendy route of relying recklessly on so-called green alternative energy, also known as windmill power. Until one day it got cold, the windmills all froze, they failed like silly fashion accessories, and then, Texans froze to death.
“This is one of the renewable energy sources that the Biden Administration and his climate allies are eager to sell to the rest of the United States, even though they are less reliable, less efficient, more expensive, and kill a lot of birds. It doesn’t matter what the rest of us think, however, because green energy is the ultimate inside game for the profitable few.” Carlson said.
