Among the past ministers of the Ministry of State Security, except Xu Yongyue, all of them either retired peacefully or reached the rank of vice president. How did Xu Yongyue disappear from the CCP political scene?
In the eyes of the general public, the Ministry of State Security (MSS) is a very secretive ministry whose main functions include intelligence collection and analysis, counter-espionage, and political defense, etc. It is the largest and most active foreign intelligence agency in China and is also partly involved in domestic security affairs. Among the successive ministers of the Ministry of State Security, except Xu Yongyue, all of them either left and retired peacefully or reached the rank of vice president. And how did Xu Yongyue disappear from the CCP political scene?
According to public information, in July 1983, the CPC Central Committee merged the former CPC Central Investigation Department as a whole, part of the Political Security Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security, part of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, and part of the National Defense Science and Technology Commission to establish the Ministry of State Security, with its headquarters in Beijing. Successive ministers are: Ling Yun, Jia Chunwang, Xu Yongyue, Geng Huichang, the current minister is Chen Wenqing.
Ling Yun, the first minister, is a normal retirement to age.
The second minister, Jia Chunwang, was reassigned to the Ministry of Public Security, and finally retired as the deputy state prosecutor general of the Supreme Procuratorate.
Xu Yongyue, the third minister, was removed from his post as Minister of State Security by the decision of the 29th meeting of the Standing Committee of the 10th National People’s Congress of the Communist Party of China on August 30, 2007.
The fourth Minister, Geng Huichang, was added as a member of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) in November 2016 and served as deputy director of the 12th CPPCC National Committee for Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese. he was re-elected as a member of the 13th CPPCC National Committee in January 2018.
Among the successive ministers of the Ministry of State Security, Xu Yongyue was the only one who was removed from his post directly and disappeared from the CCP political scene without a sound.
According to official reports, Xu Yongyue was removed from his post at the same Time as former Finance Minister Jin Renqing.
According to overseas media reports, Xu Yongyue and Jin Renqing were removed from their posts at the same time because they were both involved in the case of Li Wei, the “public mistress of a high-ranking official”. In addition to more than a dozen high-ranking officials, including Du Shicheng, former deputy secretary of the Shandong Provincial Party Committee and secretary of the Qingdao Municipal Party Committee, and Chen Tonghai, chairman of Sinopec, Li Wei’s backers include Jin Renqing and Xu Yongyue. Xu Yongyue not only issued Li Wei with Hong Kong-related documents and special expenses, but also approved her status as a key member of the Ministry of State Security on “special assignments”.
In July 2007, at the age of 65, Xu Yongyue was removed from his post and disappeared from the CCP political scene without a trace.
The May 2015 issue of the Hong Kong magazine Outpost revealed that on the eve of June 4, 1989, Jiang Zemin was suddenly ordered by the CCP Central Committee to go to Beijing. At that time, the political situation was tense, and Jiang Zemin did not know the real intention of the order to move up, and was in a panic. Xu Yongyue, then Chen Yun’s political secretary and deputy secretary-general of the CAC, met Jiang Zemin at the Beijing airport and revealed to him that Chen Yun and other CCP patriarchs wanted him to be the general secretary of the CCP. Jiang Zemin, who had been disturbed, was much relieved and considered Xu Yongyue to be loyal and reliable. After Jiang Zemin took power, Xu Yongyue received a strong promotion.
The article “Xu’s Injustice Production Line” was published on December 7 on the overseas website. According to the article, Xu Yongyue knew that the trial of Nie Shubin’s case was flawed, yet he asked the court to sentence Nie Shubin to death as soon as possible and to execute him quickly.
