It’s exaggerated! The whole town’s top brass is embezzling! The town of Armstrong, Iowa, with a population of less than 1,000 people, is rumored to have a mayor, Greg Buum, a sheriff, Craig Merrill, a town secretary, Tracie Lang, and a former secretary, Connie Thackery, all involved in corruption and other crimes.
According to the Associated Press, the jurisdiction of Armstrong Township, Emmet County (Emmet County) Sheriff’s Office pointed out that the Iowa Attorney General has filed charges against Bum, Merrill, Lang, Thackery and four others, who committed crimes including embezzlement of public funds, the use of Taser on civilians in exchange for cash, falsifying books to cover up embezzlement and so on.
In addition to Merrill the other three people have been arrested, Bum’s bail is rated at $67,000, Lange’s bail is $44,000, and Takri’s bail is the least, only $33,000.
It is unclear whether the three men have retained an attorney, and neither Merrill nor the town of Armstrong responded to telephone inquiries. Armstrong, a town of about 880 residents, is near the Iowa-Minnesota border.
