Modern version of the “nuclear boat”: the guy carved a cow on a pencil core

“Ming has a strange and clever people said Wang Shuyuan, can be diameter inch of wood, for the palace, vessels, people, and even birds and animals, wood and stone, there is no situation due to the pictogram, each with the mood. He tasted a nuclear boat, covered with a big Su Pan Chibi cloud.” I believe everyone has studied the book of nuclear boats written by the literary scholar Wei Xue Peter in the Ming Dynasty. In Lai Shui County, Baoding City, Hebei Province, Li Mingjun is one such young man who can carve on a pencil core and perform a modern version of “The Book of the Nuclear Boat”.

According to Chinese media reports, Li Mingjun, a “95-year-old” pencil microcarving enthusiast in Hebei Province’s Lishui County, carefully created pencil carvings with bull elements. His works are so exquisite and ornamental that people are impressed.

Li Mingjun, 23, is a special effects makeup artist, and carving is just a hobby of his. He was an art student in high school and sharpened a lot of pencils in the studio every day. He discovered by chance that pencil cores can shape “heart” patterns, which sparked his interest.

It is understood that different pencils have different hardness and thickness. Li first started with 2B pencil lead, and then tried the finer HB and softer 8B pencils.

“Each work takes different Time, and those with more details and rich content may take ten days or a month.” Li Mingjun said.

During the New Crown Pneumonia Epidemic, his pencil carving skills became more refined. He uploaded his work to social media platforms and received many likes and support from enthusiasts, which strengthened his determination to continue creating.

“I hope to turn my hobby into a profession, and if I can’t, I will keep going because I love it.” Li Mingjun said.
