Year of the Ox Chinese New Year national haze Beijing severe pollution

Despite the authorities’ enforcement of the ban on fireworks, China’s Chinese New Year was affected by weather conditions and the concentration of fireworks and firecrackers burning and discharging in a short period of Time further aggravated air pollution, with severe haze around Beijing and air quality reaching “severe pollution” in the early hours of the first day.

Comprehensive Chinese media reports, China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment forecast, today and tomorrow due to unfavorable diffusion conditions, coupled with the Spring Festival people burning fireworks, the overall air quality is poor, north central and southern China may appear moderate to heavy pollution, northeast, southwest is light to moderate pollution, is expected to wait until the 15th after the improvement of diffusion conditions, air quality will turn better.

Between 7 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and 6 a.m. on New Year’s Day, air quality in 47 cities in China reached more than heavy pollution, including 13 cities reached severe pollution. In Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei and surrounding areas, Langfang, Hebei is the most polluted city in the region, and seven cities, including Beijing, Baoding and Shijiazhuang, are heavily polluted.

According to the Beijing Ecological Environment Monitoring Center analysis, the evening of New Year’s Eve to the early morning of the first day, a number of monitoring stations in Beijing PM2.5 concentration increased significantly, is believed to be related to the application of a large number of firecrackers, and today many districts in Beijing still maintain heavy pollution.
