Do I have to get vaccinated after I’ve recovered? France: 1 more dose is enough

The French health authorities said today that they recommend that people who have been infected with Wuhan pneumonia (novel coronavirus disease, COVID-19) but have recovered successfully will only need one dose of the vaccine in the future.

AFP reports that although the three vaccines currently licensed in France must, in principle, be administered in two doses to obtain complete protection, the French health authorities point out that a single dose is sufficient for people who have recovered to have an immune response similar to that of the vaccine.

Two recent U.S. studies also suggest that 1 dose of the vaccine is sufficient protection for people who have had Wuhan pneumonia.

Another paper said that if someone recovered successfully from Wuhan pneumonia, their immunity would be “greater than or equal to” that of someone who had received two doses of the vaccine but had no prior history of the disease, as long as they received one more dose.

As of Thursday (11), more than 2.1 million people in France had received their first dose of the vaccine, and 530,000 of them had completed the two-dose process.
