A violent incident occurred during a “Black Lives Matter (BLM)” march in Manhattan, New York on Friday, 12 December. Two police officers and a photographer were injured, and 11 people were arrested.

About 100 protesters participated in the event in Times Square on Friday night, and police said it was peaceful at first, but tensions escalated after one protester was arrested on Sixth Avenue.

New York Daily News photojournalist Sam Costanza was mistaken for a police officer by the protesters, and a dozen of them surrounded Costanza and beat him so badly that he was sent to the hospital with a broken nose.

The New York City Police Department said two officers were injured. But it did not immediately say how the officers were injured.

Two other police vehicles were vandalized and 11 demonstrators were arrested, including two journalists, one of whom had a NYPD-issued press pass.

Some of those arrested were accused of attacking Costanza at the intersection of Sixth Avenue and 54th Street, the sources said.
