Former U.S. President Donald Trump‘s son Trump Jr. said the current impeachment of Trump by the Senate could backfire, and he believes the actions of House Democrats could turn people off.
According to TheWashington Times on Feb. 11, Trump Jr. said the impeachment is the anti-Trump side retaliating by using it as a pretext to severely punish the Trump side, “which only makes Trump stronger because people are starting to see how ridiculous it [the impeachment] is.
President Trump himself has yet to comment publicly on the impeachment, and he is currently banned from most social media platforms.
The impeachment trial is expected to last through the weekend, with some Republican senators predicting it will end on Sunday. In addition since the Senate needs 67 votes to convict the president, President Trump should not be convicted.
Trump Jr. said the longer the Senate trial of President Trump goes on, the better it will be for Republicans and the Trump side because it will be easier for people to see this impeachment as an attack on the First Amendment and the hypocrisy of the Democratic Party because they are the ones encouraging violence in some of their speeches.
Trump Jr. said that as Democrats continue to criticize and blame Trump, they themselves may be rejected by voters for these “unhelpful to America” policies.
“We are in the midst of an Epidemic, thousands of people are dying, and the Senate has nothing more worthwhile to do than spend a week commenting on the First Amendment.” He added that if President Trump’s Jan. 6 speech outside Congress can be used as a judgmental indicator of manufactured riots, then no other political figure in America can get by with a speech.
On Thursday, Democrats continued their attempts to bring a lawsuit against Trump in his Senate seat.
“The world is watching to see if our hearts and mouths match,” said Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-Texas), “Our Constitution helps keep order in America, and that’s why we have it, and we have to defend the rule of law, because the rule of law will not defend itself.”
In addition Trump’s adviser Jason Miller said Trump’s lawyers will make closing arguments at his impeachment trial on Friday (Feb. 12) on why Trump should not be impeached and convicted.
