Yesterday (10) in the incident for the first Time after the appearance.
The CPC Central Committee and the State Council held a Chinese New Year reunion yesterday (10), with a large number of current and former top CPC officials attending. The news broadcast footage showed that former Central Military Commission member and former Director of the General Political Department Li Jinnai also attended in military uniform, which was his first public appearance since his son and former assistant to the Yunnan provincial governor Li Lei fell from power late last year.
Born in May 1971, Li Lei was formerly the deputy director of the Institute of Software of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, in early 2005, only 30 years old, Li Lei hung around as assistant to the governor of Yunnan Province, a member of the provincial government’s party group, and a year later became the party secretary of the Kunming branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, vice president; at the end of 2011 transferred to the secretary of the Dehong Prefecture, becoming the youngest prefecture-level city in Yunnan at the time.
In 2014, Li Lei suddenly ceased to serve as secretary of the Dehong Prefecture Party Committee, and was even more rarely absent from the job transition ceremony, his destination became a mystery. There were claims in the Hong Kong media that Li Lei had become a monk.
But the Sing Tao Daily quoted a staff member of the Kunming Branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences as saying, “He (Li Lei) had a health problem and went back to Beijing for treatment”. He later reportedly served as director of the State Key Laboratory of Space-based Integrated Information Systems at the Institute of Software of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The Communist Party of China’s Yunnan Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection released news on December 25, 2020, that Li Lei, former assistant governor of Yunnan Province, was under investigation for alleged serious official violations.
A number of Hong Kong media reported that Li Lei is the son of Li Ji-nei, a former member of the CPC Central Military Commission and former director of the General Political Department. However, although many mainland Chinese media reported the news of Li Lei’s investigation, they rarely revealed Li Lei’s Family background, only Caixin.com mentioned in its report that Li Lei comes from a general family.
According to public information, Li Ji Nai, 78, is also a native of Tengzhou, Shandong Province, which basically matches the above report.
He was a member of the Central Military Commission during the Hu Jintao era, the head of the General Equipment Department and the director of the General Political Department, and is considered a close friend of Jiang Zemin’s military, who was also rumored to have been investigated several times during Xi Jinping‘s military anti-corruption campaign in 2016.
According to a source quoted by overseas TV station New Tang Dynasty, Li and another former top military official, Liao Xilong, were not only corrupt but also involved in serious human rights violations. He said, “Li Ji Nai is the director of 610 within the military, Liao Xilong is the head of the General Logistics Department, (he) the suppression of Falun Gong, live organ harvesting as a battle to fight, is an active member.”
