On Tuesday, February 9, a number of U.S. senators heavily criticized the World health Organization (WHO) for releasing an investigative report on “the origin of the Chinese Communist virus (Wuhan pneumonia) was not the Wuhan laboratory. They reiterated that the virus originated in China and that the WHO is a puppet of the Chinese Communist Party. They also demanded that WHO Secretary-General Tandezai and other leaders be held accountable for withholding information on the outbreak for the Chinese Communist Party.
On the same day, Peter Ben Embarek, WHO Food safety and animal disease expert and chair of the investigation team, dismissed at a press conference the theory that the virus was leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virus Research. He claimed that such a hypothesis was “highly unlikely” and that the “most likely” route of virus transmission was through crossover into humans via intermediate species. He also suggested that the investigation should be abandoned.
Republican Senator Rick Scott tweeted that it was “inexcusable and they must be held accountable” for not only failing to fulfill its mission, but also acting as a puppet for the Chinese Communist Party, helping it to conceal the outbreak and spread false information in the face of the threat of the COVID-19 virus.
Scott said, “Since last February, I have called on the WHO to conduct an in-depth analysis of the scope and source of the CCP virus. But nearly a year later, WHO has not provided an answer either. They have even abandoned the investigation into whether COVID-19 leaked from the Wuhan lab.” He added, “The consequences of their inaction have been severe.”
Federal Senator Josh Hawley (D-CA) also said, “Time and time again, the WHO has put the interests of the Chinese Communist Party ahead of the health of people around the world. Dr. Tandusse and other WHO leaders must be held accountable for their failures.” He argued that the WHO must be overhauled before it can once again benefit from U.S. tax dollars.
Together, Scott and Hawley have also introduced the WHO Accountability Act, which would hold the WHO and its leader, Dr. Tandezai, accountable for helping the Chinese Communist Party cover up information about the threat of the Chinese virus. The bill calls for the U.S. to suspend funding of the WHO with taxpayer dollars until the WHO changes leadership and accepts Taiwan as a member.
Senator Tom Cotton (R-UT), one of the first U.S. politicians to suggest that the CCP virus may have originated in a Wuhan lab, also tweeted, “The CCP virus originated in China, but the CCP is trying to hide information from the world in order to manipulate the global response. And WHO is trying to deflect the origin of the virus for the CCP and says there is no evidence of human-to-human transmission and opposes (U.S.) border closures and travel bans.”
Cotton added that Taiwan was one of the most successful regions in responding to the virus, but was excluded from the WHO because of pressure from the Chinese Communist Party. Cotton noted, “This political game has deadly consequences. If Taiwan had been included in the discussion earlier, the world (against the Epidemic) would have been much better prepared.” He therefore suggested that the Communist Party’s WHO proposal be discarded and the advice of impartial experts be heeded.
U.S. Rep. Dan Bishop (R-CA) also tweeted a rebuttal to the WHO’s conclusions. He said, “We need to conduct an independent investigation, not listen to CCP (Communist Party of China) propaganda.”
In a recent interview with FOX News, former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo also said that the WHO’s claim that “the virus did not come from the Wuhan lab” did not convince him. He denounced that “WHO is kneeling before General Secretary Xi Jinping, and it is corrupt.”
