Kevin Jiang, a 26-year-old Chinese-American master’s student at Yale University, was shot and killed several times in New Haven, Connecticut, on the evening of June 6; police said on the 8th that they were doing their best to investigate the murder, and had information that it was probably not a random crime, and that the victim may have been the target of the shooter before the crime.
Kevin Chiang was shot and killed on the spot at about 8:30 p.m. on the night of the 6th in New Haven on East Rock (East Rock) between Nash St. and Lawrence St. Police arrived and found Kevin Chiang in the middle of the road with his Toyota nearby, and the car had rear-end damage.

The New Haven mayor and Yale University president attended a press conference held by police on the 8th for the case. New Haven Police Chief Otoniel Reyes said police are investigating whether this is a premeditated murder. He said police have some information that the case may not be random, but it is not yet possible to determine the motive.
The local chief medical examiner, James Gill, announced the cause of death of Kevin Chiang, who was shot in the head, neck, body and extremities.
Witnesses provided a tip to Yale University police that they saw a very bright new black car fleeing the scene after the crime. Police said a full investigation is underway.
Kevin Chiang was a former U.S. Army tank armorer and a member of the National Guard until his death; he continued to serve his community, which held him in high regard, and was deeply saddened by his death.

Kevin Chiang entered Yale University in 2019 to pursue a master’s degree, majoring in environmental science, and was expected to graduate next year. Peter Salovey, the school’s president, said Kevin Chiang had long volunteered to cook for homeless people at a homeless shelter and “he wanted to make a positive difference in the world.
Greg Hendrickson, the pastor of Kevin Chiang’s church, said he had just agreed with him last week that he would officiate at his wedding, but “now he is officiating at his funeral,” saying, “We deeply mourn the fact that although Kevin’s earthly Life was cut short, he made the most of his Time on earth; he was an example and an inspiration to us.
In an email to the Yale Daily News, his fiancée Zion Perry, a Yale student who proposed to his girlfriend a week ago, said, “Kevin was a gift from God.
