Simone Gold, MD, founder of America’s Frontline Doctors, shared on the America’s Frontline Doctors website last month what happened to her after she administered hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) to a patient.
In the video, Dr. Gold says her supervisor threatened, “If you ever prescribe hydroxychloroquine to a patient for coronavirus again, I will fire you.” The medical director wrote down the underlying reason for not letting the doctor prescribe hydroxychloroquine – the hospital’s largest payer, a U.S. West Coast insurance company, demanded it.
The female doctor, who entered the Capitol on Jan. 6, said on video, “I knew hydroxychloroquine was controversial, but I gave the drug to this coronavirus patient anyway. The patient called me on the 2nd day for a follow-up phone call and said he felt much better. Patients usually get better within 12 hours of taking hydroxychloroquine and recover completely within 48 hours, which is exactly what is written in the scientific literature. I’ve read a lot of literature and read a lot of medical cases where hydroxychloroquine has been shown to heal at this rate.”
Dr. Kim continued, “The next day the medical director called and threatened to fire me because I had prescribed hydroxychloroquine to the patient.”
Dr. Kim argued, “The medical director is not a medical student, I am a medical student, and I know that this drug works. Why are you interfering when I’m treating a patient? You do your thing, I do my thing, medical practice is independent, that’s why we doctors are licensed. It is actually illegal for a medical unit to interfere with a doctor’s practice of Medicine. It’s the doctor treating the patient, not the hospital treating the patient. “
Dr. Kim added, “The worst part is that the medical director doesn’t know if hydroxychloroquine works, and the reason he said he was going to fire me was because some insurance company wouldn’t let the hospital prescribe hydroxychloroquine. The one that pays our hospital the most is a major insurance company and they want to ban hydroxychloroquine, so they made a request to not let our doctors prescribe hydroxychloroquine. “
