Throwing ink on Xi Jinping’s portrait, rumor has it that Dong Yaoqiong was sent to a mental hospital for the third time

Dong Yaoqiong, the Hunan girl who threw ink at the portrait of Chinese Communist Party General Secretary Xi Jinping, is suspected to have been sent to a mental hospital for the third Time recently. Huayong, a Beijing-based painter who has long followed Dong Yaoqiong, tweeted the news on Feb. 8.

Huayong tweeted that Dong Yaoqiong was put into Zhuzhou City Psychiatric Hospital No. 3 for the third time by the authorities on Feb. 6, asking all sectors to pay attention to Dong Yaoqiong.

Dong Yaoqiong was arrested by Shanghai public security officers after she threw ink on the head of Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China, in July 2018, and was sent back to her hometown of You County, Zhuzhou City, Hunan Province, by the authorities on July 16 of the same year, and was put in Zhuzhou City Hospital twice for suspected mental illness.

It is understood that during her detention, Dong Yaoqiong was subjected to torture and abuse. Her father, Dong Jianbiao, told the media that his daughter had been forced to take medication while in custody. When she was released, Dong Yaoqiong presented a very different appearance from her original lively and cheerful appearance. After her release, Dong Yaoqiong became silent, tense and even somewhat demented.

After her release last year, Dong Yaoqiong tweeted a video saying that the local government had asked her to go to work so that she could be monitored. In the video, she stressed that she was not mentally ill and that the authorities had forced her into a mental hospital. The tweet was later deleted.

Hunan rights activist Ou Biaofeng retweeted the video in solidarity with Dong Yaoqiong, but was then placed in administrative detention for 15 days by Zhuzhou police for “picking quarrels and provoking trouble. The authorities later changed the charge to “inciting subversion of state power” and changed it from administrative detention to residential surveillance.

Dong Yaoqiong tweeted last month on the 22nd, explaining why Ou Biaofeng was arrested. She said that Ou Biaofeng was arrested for helping her pass on a message that a U.S. diplomat wanted to meet with her in private. After the message was delivered, Ou Biaofeng was detained by public security.
