U.S. Department of Justice shakeup, 56 prosecutors nationwide to be told to leave

Officials familiar with the matter revealed that acting U.S. Attorney General Wilkinson (Monty Wilkinson) intends to request the resignation of federal prosecutors appointed by former President Trump (Donald Trump) who currently remain in office. Right now the Biden administration is working to build their own Justice Department team.

However, a senior Justice Department official said that two senior prosecutors responsible for the investigation of politically sensitive cases are not affected by this decision, including Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss, Weiss’ office is conducting a criminal tax investigation of Biden’s son, Hunter Biden (Hunter Biden).

The official revealed that another prosecutor, John Durham, is expected to continue as a special federal prosecutor overseeing a full investigation into the origins of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) 2016 Russia probe, but he will relinquish his position as federal prosecutor in Connecticut. Former Attorney General William Barr (William Barr) appointed Durham as special prosecutor last October and announced the decision last December.

The Justice Department official said the resignation request applies to 56 federal prosecutors, but they are not expected to leave immediately. The two officials revealed that Justice Department officials have scheduled a conference call with federal prosecutors on Tuesday to discuss related handover issues.

It is not clear whether the request also applies to acting federal prosecutor Michael Sherwin in Washington, who has been handling a large number of lawsuits related to the Jan. 6 riots at the U.S. Capitol.
