The U.S. and India’s 2012 “Prepare for War” joint military exercise.
The United States and India will hold this year’s joint military exercises beginning Feb. 8 to continue to strengthen synergy between the two militaries. The exercise will take place at the Mahajan Field Firing Range in Rajasthan, India.
The U.S. Diplomatic Corps in India announced Feb. 5 that U.S. and Indian military personnel will conduct this year’s “Yudh Abhyas” (Preparing for War) joint military exercise Feb. 8-21.
The exercise, sponsored by the U.S. Pacific Army, involves approximately 250 U.S. and 250 Indian service members. This annual military exercise enhances the ability of the two services to work together through training and cultural exchange to promote an enduring partnership in the Indo-Pacific region through common defense objectives.
The military exercise consists of a Command Post Exercise (CPX) and a Field Training Exercise (FTX). The CPX will focus on the tasks of UN peacekeeping operations staff in a joint military environment; the FTX will exercise integrated basic combat skills and enhance integrated operational capabilities. The two exercises will be held simultaneously.
The U.S. diplomatic corps in India said the joint “Prepare for War” exercise provides an excellent opportunity for professional and cultural exchange. We are strengthening our partnership through joint learning and training. Training begins with academic exchanges of experts and professional development workshops focused on training at the corps level and below; combat against conventional, unconventional and hybrid threats; and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.
As part of the military-to-military exchange program, U.S. Army troops will arrive in India Feb. 5 to participate with Indian Army units in Exercise 16, ‘Preparing for War,'” Indian Defense Ministry spokesman Amitabh Sharma said Feb. 3. “
In the context of global terrorism (threat), the exercise with the U.S. Army is significant to the security challenges facing both countries,” he said in a press release. The joint military exercises will increase the level of defense cooperation between the two militaries, which will also boost bilateral relations between the two countries and reaffirm India’s critical role as a key partner in the Indo-Pacific region.”
