Edmonton (pictured) will have its coldest day of the year due to polar air currents.
The Canadian Meteorological Service predicts that temperatures in Edmonton, Alberta, will drop sharply over the weekend due to polar air currents hitting south, and may drop to minus 45 degrees Celsius next Monday (8), which will be the coldest day of the year in the area.
Meteorologist Sara Hoffman expects the northwest polar airflow to blow into Alberta next Monday, bringing extremely cold weather to Edmonton and central Alberta, with temperatures expected to start falling sharply over the weekend and drop further by early next week.
Hoffman also estimated that the cold front will continue to move south to Saskatchewan and Manitoba, the coming week to continue to bring severe cold weather in the region.
Hoffman said, Edmonton outside and low-lying areas from Time to time appear below -40 degrees Celsius, but the downtown area of similar cold situation is rare, reminded the public to avoid prolonged stay outdoors. Edmonton launched measures Thursday (4) to deal with the extreme cold weather, including the provision of overnight buses to shuttle the city’s emergency cold centers, transfer stations and key locations in the region.
