U.S. bank hands over secret customer data to FBI to help search for ‘extremists’

On Thursday (4), Fox News host Tucker Carlson revealed on his show that Bank of America had shared customer information with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) without the customer’s knowledge or consent. Bank of America is actively involved in the search for “extremists.
Carlson said on his “Tucker Carlson Tonight” show that he obtained exclusive evidence that Bank of America assisted federal investigators in their “extremist” investigation following the Jan. 6 riots at the U.S. Capitol. .

The Biden administration and law enforcement have said they want to go after domestic “extremists,” but have not provided a clear definition of “extremists. “What exactly are they doing?” Carlson asked. Carlson asked, “How are they hunting these extremists that they keep telling us about but don’t define?”

“We now know part of the answer to that question.” Carlson said Bank of America, the nation’s second-largest bank with more than 60 million customers, has now effectively become an intelligence agency that is actively and secretly working with the government to hunt down “extremists.”

Carlson detailed the transaction data requested by federal investigators, noting that the information was “so extensive” that the bank identified 211 customers who met all the data requirements. And without notifying those customers, the bank forwarded their transaction data to the FBI.

“Federal investigators then questioned at least one of these unsuspecting customers. We learned that that person did not make any mistakes and was ultimately cleared of any wrongdoing.” Carlson said.

“Imagine if you were that person and the FBI called you in for questioning in the middle of a terrorist investigation. Not because you did anything suspicious. You didn’t.” Carlson continued, “You bought plane tickets and visited the nation’s capital. You thought you could do that. You thought it was your country. Now, they’re grilling you because your bank, the bank where you keep your most private information – information about all the merchandise you’ve purchased – sold you out to FBI officials without telling you, without your knowledge.”

Carlson said, “An experience like that will scare the crap out of you, absolutely. Terror suspects, do you think? Did anyone else know about this? Is there a record of this inquiry? Will I lose my job because of this? This did happen to someone. It’s hard to believe, but it does happen.”

Carlson then said his team asked Bank of America about the incident, which it did not deny and confirmed that it did happen. Carlson read Bank of America’s statement, which asserted that under federal law, they have a duty to cooperate with law enforcement’s investigation fully in accordance with the law.

“But that’s not true. Bank of America did have a choice, and Bank of America could have refused to turn over its innocent customers’ information to federal investigators, but they didn’t.” Carlson said it’s not simple to define exactly about whether Bank of America’s practices were legal because it’s a gray area. His team consulted with a number of attorneys who said the bank’s actions may have been allegedly unlawful.

Carlson concluded that, according to Bank of America, someone who bought a muffin in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 5 could be considered a potential domestic “extremist.
