Lai Chi-ying was escorted to court in a Class A felony prison van for participating in the June 4 mourning.

One Media founder Lai Chi-ying appeared in court today in a special “Iron Dragon” prison van, which is used to transport “Class A felons”. “The judge adjourned the case to June 11 for further hearing.

Hong Kong media reports that Next Media founder Lai Chi-ying was summoned today and escorted to the West Kowloon Law Courts in an “ironclad” prison van because he appeared at an unauthorized rally held in Victoria Park on June 4 last year to commemorate the June 4 incident.

Lai Chi-ying and Lee Cheuk-yan, the chairman of the Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China (HKASPDMC), Kwok Wing-kin, the chairman of the Labour Party and Chan Ho-hwan, the deputy convenor of the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong (DAB), were charged with inciting others to assemble illegally.

The other 13 defendants, including the former spokesman of the “Civil Diplomacy Network” Zhang Kunyang, the founding chairman of the Hong Kong Alliance for Democracy and People’s Livelihood, Luo Guancong, the former secretary general of the Hong Kong Alliance for Democracy and People’s Livelihood, Huang Zhifeng, former Legislative Council member Yang Sen, Zhu Kaidi and Liang Kaiqing, were charged with unlawful assembly, of which Luo Guancong and Zhang Kunyang did not appear in court while the rest appeared in court; it is reported that Zhu Kaidi, Shum Aohui and Yuen Ka Wai were charged with unlawful assembly. It is reported, Zhu Kaidi, Shum Aohui, Yuan Jiawei, Liang Kaiqing and Huang Zhifeng are conveyed through their lawyers will plead guilty, this five people’s case was postponed to April 30, the trial, they will formally plead guilty on that day.
