Maung Maung Latt, first secretary of the Burmese Embassy in the United States, announced Thursday (4) that he has decided to seek political asylum with the U.S. government because of the military coup that took place in Burma earlier.
Maung Maung Latt told the Voice of America that he decided to seek political asylum in the United States because he could not accept the Burmese military’s illegal seizure of power. He said, “Because the Biden administration prioritizes human rights, I hope they will grant me political asylum. I strictly urge my fellow diplomats to participate in civil disobedience against the (Burmese) military.”
