U.S. border arrests 3,000 illegal immigrants a day, patrolman: “I’m scared”

Honduran migrants travel by truck to the Honduras-Guatemala border on Jan. 15 to begin their journey to the United States.

The Biden administration’s open border policy has led to a surge in illegal immigration at the U.S.-Mexico border, with daily arrests of up to 3,000 border crossers, which one agent with decades of border patrol experience said “scares the hell out of him.
According to the Washington Examiner, new border data show that the Biden Administration has opened the border more widely than under former President Barack Obama, and that illegal immigration has surged to the highest level in nearly two years.

What’s more, there are indications that the number of illegal immigrants will soar further when the Biden administration unveils its full immigration agenda, aimed at reversing former President Trump‘s policy of closing the border.

Mark Morgan, former acting director of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), revealed that according to data he has seen, the daily average of illegal border crossers reached 3,000, “the day before, it was 3,500 in one day,” and that border agents also apprehend 300 per day Unaccompanied minors are also apprehended by border agents every day.

Morgan, who currently works at The Heritage Foundation, a conservative U.S. think tank, said “we haven’t seen numbers like this since the record highs of 2019.” He noted that multiple migrant hordes are trying to cross the border every day.

The mere apprehension of 1,000 illegal border crossers a day has former President Barack Obama’s Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson scared. He said in 2019, “If the number of apprehensions the day before is under 1,000, that’s a relatively good number, and if it’s over 1,000, that’s a relatively bad number, and then I’m in a bad mood all day.”

Morgan and his Trump-era allies at the Department of Homeland Security had warned Biden transition team officials that the sudden announcement of an end to tough immigration measures would lead to an influx of immigrants.

“We told them what would happen. They ignored the experts, and they completely ignored the science when it came to border security.” Morgan said.

Morgan also revealed that experienced agents at the border are very concerned about a potential influx of illegal immigrants in the spring. He said, “I was talking to a Border Patrol leader who’s been doing this for decades, you know, kind of a tough guy. He looked at me and said, ‘Chief, I’ve got to tell you, I’m scared of what’s coming.'”

According to the latest annual study released by the nonprofit Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), the illegal immigrant population in the U.S. has grown by at least 200,000 since 2019, bringing the total annual cost to about $134 billion and costing taxpayers an additional $2 billion.

About 14.5 million illegal immigrants currently reside in the United States, most of whom live in the southern border region or in sanctuary states. The researchers also noted that these figures are only estimates and that the actual numbers could be higher.
