A new Monmouth University (MU) poll released Wednesday (Feb. 3) shows that nearly a quarter of Americans are not at all willing to be vaccinated against the Chinese Communist virus (Neocoronavirus).
In the survey, when respondents were asked whether they would get the vaccine immediately, delay it until more people receive it, or oppose it altogether, 24 percent said they would likely “never get the vaccine. At the same Time, 50% responded that they would get the vaccine as soon as it was offered. Nearly 20 percent of respondents said they would “wait and see what happens” (before deciding).
Respondents’ perceptions of when the U.S. will be able to contain the CCP virus and return to normal Life vary widely. About 30 percent believe this could happen this summer, while 39 percent believe it will not happen before the end of 2021. In addition, 60 percent of respondents said they were “very worried” that a member of their Family might become seriously ill.
Patrick Murray, director of Monmouth University’s Independent Polling Institute, said in a press release that the poll also revealed a partisan divide, with nearly 42 percent of Republicans saying they would avoid vaccination.
“The reluctance to vaccinate against the CCP virus is more a partisan factor than any single demographic. It reveals the extent to which the severity of our partisan divide largely affects public health issues like this,” Murray said.
In addition, 71 percent of people surveyed were confident that President Biden would be able to recover the United States from the virus pandemic, with 36 percent saying they were “very confident” and 35 percent saying they were “somewhat confident.
The survey, conducted by telephone between Jan. 21 and 24, assessed the responses of 809 U.S. adults and has a margin of error of 3.5 percent.
