The Wyoming Casper Star-Tribune reported this week that House Republican Conference Chairwoman Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) has been harshly censured by Republicans in 10 counties in her Home state of Wyoming, and that Republican committees in more counties are preparing to censure Rep. Cheney as well. Wyoming has 23 counties in all.
The Casper Star Tribune, a newspaper published in Casper, Wyoming, has statewide reach and readership and is the largest printed newspaper in Wyoming.
Cheney Jr. voted for Trump‘s impeachment in the House of Representatives on Jan. 13, a move that brought her fierce opposition in Wyoming and Washington, D.C.
The Sweetwater County, Wyoming, Republican said Cheney Jr. “betrayed trust and failed to honor the overwhelming majority of Wyoming voters who voted for her in the first place.”
The Sweetwater County resolution goes on to state that Rep. Cheney voted to impeach President Trump in a non-compliant process that did not follow due process, did not provide any evidence, did not consider the circumstances of the deposition, did not have witnesses testify under oath, and did not allow anyone to question the person charged. Rep. Liz Cheney disdains the quantifiable will of the vast majority of Wyoming’s citizens and devalues Wyoming’s political influence.
In Washington, more than half of the members of the House Republican Conference have pledged to vote to remove Cheney from the chairmanship of the Republican Conference. That vote should take place Wednesday, according to a CNN report. A senior House Republican told Breitbart News that Republican lawmakers believe Cheney should voluntarily resign. The two candidates to replace Cheney Jr. are ready, one is Lee Zeldin (Lee Zeldin) and the other is Alice Stefanik (Elise Stefanik), both congressmen from New York state.
But Liz Cheney is gaining support from some influential Republicans, resisting a wave of attempts to pull herself down from the No. 3 House Republican. (The No. 1 Republican in the House is McCarthy, and the No. 2 is Republican Whip Steve Scalise.)
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) said he does not support removing Cheney from his position as conference chairman. Cheney Jr. himself said he has no intention of stepping down, “I’m not going anywhere.” Rep. Cheney said so in January, “I voted based on my moral judgment. There is a difference of opinion allowed in the Republican conference in that regard.”
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) praised Cheney on Monday (Feb. 1), calling her an “important leader” who has the courage to act on “deep convictions.
In a statement to CNN, McConnell said, “Liz Cheney is a leader who has strong convictions and the courage to act on them. She is an important leader for our party and our country. I thank her for her service and look forward to continuing to work with her on the critical issues facing our nation.”
