Shandong Zhucheng chemical waste poisoned 37 people, at least 4 dead

Recently, an incident of illegal dumping of chemical waste occurred in Zhucheng City, Shandong Province, which led to 37 people being poisoned and 4 of them died.

On the evening of Feb. 2, Zhucheng Media Center of Shandong Province issued an information note on the “illegal dumping of chemical waste in Zhucheng, Shandong Province”, referring to the incident that occurred in Sunwang Street, Zhucheng City on Jan. 31, resulting in 37 people with different degrees of poisoning symptoms, of whom 4 died after rescue.

As of 11:00 on February 2, in addition to the aforementioned 4 deaths, 33 patients with poisoning symptoms were admitted to the hospital, of which 3 critically ill patients were still in the intensive care unit, 28 mildly ill patients were improving, and 2 other patients were discharged.

After a preliminary investigation, these patients were poisoned due to the harmful gases generated by the volatilization of illegally dumped chemical waste. At present 16 suspects were arrested.

However, the note did not disclose what chemical waste, as well as the identity of the poisoned, the source of chemical waste, etc.
