Taiwan establishes “Taiwan Office” in Guyana

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan announced that it has reached a consensus with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Guyana to establish a Taiwan Office in the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, and the two sides signed an agreement to establish the office on January 11.

“The Taiwan Office has been in initial operation since January 15 and is now gradually completing the relevant preparatory work. If Guyana decides to establish an office of equal status in Taiwan in the future, it will do so in accordance with the reciprocity principle of this agreement and will enjoy the same conditions and treatment as the Taiwan Office.

At the same Time, the U.S. Embassy in Guyana issued a statement saying that the United States applauds Guyana’s agreement to establish an office in Taiwan and that deepening Guyana’s relationship with Taiwan will promote their shared goals of prosperity and security, and closer relations between Guyana and Taiwan, based on shared democratic values, transparency and mutual respect, to advance cooperation and development in the Guyana region.

Located in the northeastern part of South America, the Cooperative Republic of Guyana is rich in mineral and oil resources, and its capital, Georgetown, is also Home to the Secretariat of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
