The U.S. Senate’s impeachment of former President Trump will take place next Monday, Feb. 8. Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz (R) said Wednesday, Feb. 3, that he could give up his seat, and even his Family, if needed in order to defend Trump at the impeachment hearings.
Gaetz said in an interview with Bannon’s War Room on Feb. 3 that he believes Trump is only getting a low level of defense at this point.
He also said he and fellow Republicans discussed defending President Trump and consulted with the House Committee on Ethics, who told them they would have to give up their congressional seats before they could go to the Senate on the 8th to help defend Trump.
In response, Gates said he loves his district and values his seat in Congress, “but when I think about the way President Trump ended his term and the danger that the end of the Trump (sponsored “America First”) movement poses to our people, both in my district and in this entire country The danger that the people pose.”
He said, “If President Trump asks me to defend him, it will be the biggest thing in my Life. …… I would give up my seat, I would give up my family to defend our nation’s greatest president, and I would make sure that he gets a comprehensive defense that he won’t just give up, that he won’t be afraid to say because he’s worried about losing some neutral Republican lawmakers.”

He also said that Trump has done a lot for the great America and that Trump deserves a defense at the impeachment hearing that matches what he has given. “A defense that deserves everything he’s done for this great country.”
The impeachment initiated by Senate Democrats would require the support of 2/3 of the members to convict Trump, requiring both the support of 17 Republican senators to pass. 45 Republican senators have already said on Feb. 3 that the second impeachment of Trump by the Democratic-led Senate is unconstitutional.
