Graham: Congress incident was a premeditated attack, the FBI can testify

U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham speaks during a news conference in Washington, D.C., Jan. 7, 2021.

The U.S. Senate will hear the impeachment case brought by the House of Representatives against former President Trump next week. Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) recently warned Democrats that the trial farce should end as soon as possible, or Trump will ask the FBI to arrive to confirm that the congressional incident was a premeditated attack, unrelated to Trump’s speech that day.

On Tuesday (Feb. 2), the U.S. House of Representatives Democratic impeachment managers (managers) submitted an 80-page impeachment trial memo to the Senate, accusing Trump of inciting a “mob” to attack the Capitol on Jan. 6 and committing “serious crimes and misdemeanors “. On the same day, Trump’s defense team formally submitted rebuttals and related materials and evidence to the Senate, saying that the House’s impeachment of Trump was an unconstitutional act, insisting that Trump is innocent and that the Senate should drop all charges.

According to the Epoch Times, the Democratic impeachment manager claimed in a statement released Tuesday that Trump has been claiming he won a landslide victory in the 2020 election and then also “called, gathered and incited a mob to attack the Capitol” and that the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol “left three police officers and four others dead,” posed a threat to the vice president and Congress, and “successfully called off the Electoral College vote count.”

On Monday, Republican Rep. Graham, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, had cautioned fellow Senate Democrats to end the impeachment trial as soon as possible. He warned that if Democrats called witnesses during the impeachment trial, then Republicans might ask the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to testify there, which would certainly prolong the impeachment trial.

In an interview with Fox News on Monday, Graham said Republicans will want the FBI to intervene in the impeachment case if Democrats are determined to find trouble.

“We’re going to want to let the FBI tell us how people premeditated this attack and what exactly went wrong with the security of the Capitol.” Graham said, “If you call a witness, then you open Pandora’s box.”

According to media reports since Jan. 6, the FBI alone has apprehended a number of anti-Trump suspects in the Capitol incident, including members of the far-left groups Black Lives Matter (BLM) and Antifa.

On January 15, acting District of Columbia federal prosecutor Michael Sherwin said at a press conference that investigators concluded from the available evidence that the congressional riots were not simply the result of an out-of-control protest, but rather a “premeditated attack. Because they found that some people left the rally site of Trump’s speech early that day, probably to prepare weapons for the “attack” on the Capitol.

The conservative media further reported that many of those who stormed the Capitol on January 6 were members of Antifa, who deliberately posed as Trump supporters and stormed the Capitol to carry out violent activities, thereby framing Trump.
