In an investor report, Barclays analysts Blayne Curtis and Thomas O’Malley said all four iPhone 13 models will have an upgraded ultra-wide angle camera with a ƒ/1.8 aperture, compared to the iphone 12 model’s ƒ /2.4 aperture.
In an investor report last November, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also claimed that the ultra-wide angle lens will be upgraded to ƒ/1.8 aperture, but only for iPhone 13 Pro models, so there is conflicting information about how many models will be upgraded with the ultra-wide angle lens. Kuo expects the upgraded ultra-wide angle lens to expand to the rest of the flagship iPhone lineup in the second half of 2022.
The larger aperture will allow more light to pass through the lens, and the upgrade from ƒ/2.4 to ƒ/1.8 aperture may significantly improve the low-light performance of iPhone 13 models when shooting in ultra-wide angle mode.
Barclays also claims that the upgraded telephoto lens for the iPhone 12 Pro Max will be extended to the standard iPhone 13 Pro with a focal length of 65 mm and an aperture of ƒ/2.2, a move that is expected to benefit chipmaker Cirrus Logic as, starting later this year, Cirrus Logic will provide Apple with an additional model of iPhone camera controller starting later this year.
