Chen Feng has been appointed as the head of the Police Liaison Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Hong Kong.
Chen Feng, a close associate of Xi Jinping and former deputy minister of public security Wang Xiaohong, has secretly taken up the post of head of the police liaison department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Hong Kong. Previously, the post was held by Guo Shengkun’s old man Li Jiangzhou. Analysis suggests that Chen Feng’s new post is another major move by Xi Jinping’s camp to take over the Hong Kong police force, which has long been controlled by Zeng Qinghong and Guo Shengkun.
Hong Kong media reported on February 2 that on January 31, Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor visited the Hong Kong Police Force, accompanied by Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Luo Huining, Deputy Director Yang Jianping and Police Liaison Department Head Chen Feng. This is Chen Feng’s first appearance as the head of the Police Liaison Department.
According to the HKSAR government’s news website on January 31, Chen Feng has assumed the post of Minister of Police Liaison Department.
The Hong Kong media disclosed late last year that two or three months ago, Chen Feng, a close associate of Xi Jinping and former deputy executive minister of the Ministry of Public Security Wang Xiaohong, had secretly taken over the police liaison department of the Liaison Office.
According to Fujian Daily, on November 10, 2020, Chen Feng was removed from his position as vice mayor and public security chief of Putian City and replaced by Chen Wenrong, chief of the Criminal Investigation Department of Fujian Provincial Public Security Bureau.
Chen Feng, 53, is a native of Lianjiang, Fujian Province, and has long worked in the Fujian Provincial Public Security Bureau since December 2008, starting as deputy director of the office and researcher, and has served as political commissar of the command center of the Fujian Provincial Public Security Bureau, director of the command and intelligence center, and minister of the police security department. in September 2018, he was appointed vice mayor of Putian City and party secretary of the Putian Public Security Bureau. Chen Feng had studied in the United Kingdom and served as a police liaison officer at the Chinese Communist Party‘s embassy in the United States, and is fluent in English.
Of note is that Wang Xiaohong, executive vice minister of the CCP’s Ministry of Public Security, was the deputy director of the Fujian Provincial Public Security Bureau, Chen Feng’s old boss.
Wang Xiaohong worked in Fujian’s public security system in his early years, and was a close associate of Xi Jinping, with whom he had close ties for many years. According to current affairs commentator Li Yanming, Chen Feng, a former member of Wang Xiaohong’s team, is the new head of the police liaison department of the Liaison Office, replacing Guo Shengkun’s old man Li Jiangzhou, another major move by Xi Jinping’s camp to take over the Hong Kong police force, which had been controlled by Guo Shengkun for a long Time.
