The city of Tonghua in China’s Jilin province has been suddenly sealed off, but it has failed to ensure the basic livelihood of the people, causing hundreds of thousands of residents to starve for days. Some citizens recently told German media that they ate white porridge or white noodles mixed with soy sauce every day and had to participate in slogan chanting actions organized by the community at night.
According to Deutsche Welle, Mr. Zhao, a citizen of Tonghua, was reluctant to be interviewed by journalists, but he was chilled when he saw the local government’s “warmth” show in a group.
