Figures released by Hong Kong police say more than 10,000 people have been arrested in the anti-sending campaign.

The latest data released by the Hong Kong Police Force on the 2nd said that in the past year (2020) a total of more than 10,000 people were arrested in connection with the anti-China movement, of which 40% were students; and the National Security Law has come into effect so far, 97 people have been arrested, and 8 people have been prosecuted in the case. In addition, there were more than 60,000 crimes in the past year, including a significant increase in extortion and fraud cases.

Hong Kong Police Commissioner Deng Bingqiang Tuesday (2) held a press conference to explain the law and order situation in Hong Kong in 2020. According to the relevant data released, as of the end of December last year, 10,200 people were arrested for the anti-sending campaign, of which about 4 adults are students, 2,450 people have been prosecuted, more than 940 people completed the judicial process, more than 8 adults were convicted or signed conservative behavior, 190 people were sentenced to imprisonment. Three of them were convicted of rioting for clashing with the Global Times employee Fu Guohao at the airport, and were imprisoned for about 4 to 5.5 years, the heaviest sentences in the anti-sending cases so far.

In addition, since the National Security Law came into effect in the middle of last year, the police have arrested 97 people on suspicion of “secession, subversion of state power, collusion with foreign forces, and using money or property to finance others to secede from the state”. The police said a total of 97 people were arrested and some were charged with “publishing seditious words, fraud and money laundering. Police said the case has been filed against eight people, including a major shareholder of the media group. The 55 people arrested earlier on suspicion of “organizing and participating in the democratic primary election”, the case is under investigation.

Police also said that last year, the overall crime more than 63,200 cases, an increase of 6.8% over the previous year, including fraud, extortion, criminal intimidation and robbery cases have increased. However, violent crime fell 3.1%.

Fraud cases, a total of 15,553 cases recorded last year, including online shopping fraud, telephone fraud and online love fraud cases, mainly compared to the previous year, recorded a 90% increase; online shopping recorded 6,678 cases, more than twice the previous year; blackmail cases, a total of 1,399 cases recorded last year, compared to the previous year, an increase of 2.4 times, including nude chat blackmail cases more than 5 times, accounting for more than 70% of the overall cases.

Police said that the increase is related to more people using online chatting and dating software during the Epidemic.
