Placard Campaign Launched in Republican Party to Demand Resignation of 9 Republican Lawmakers Who Dissented from Vote

Breitbart News reported Monday, Feb. 1, that a group within the Republican Party has launched a massive placard campaign calling for Republican lawmakers to resign in the wake of the Jan. 6 Capitol storming.

The Hill reported on Friday that the Republican Accountability Project launched a placard campaign targeting several Republican House members and senators who opposed certifying electoral college votes in swing states on Jan. 6. The two Republican senators who were asked to step down were Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Jo-Hawley (R-Texas).

One of the placards reads, “You lied to the campaign. The Capitol was attacked. Senator Cruz resigns.”

The accountability project’s website says the campaign cost $1 million.

The nine Republican House members named by the placards are.

Marjorie Taylor Greene of Joe

New York’s Elise Stefanik (D)

Mo Brooks (R) of Alabama

Madison Cawthorn of North Carolina

Jim Jordan of Ohio (R-Ohio)

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy of California

Louie Gohmert (R) of Texas

Devin Nunes of California

Matt Gaetz of Florida

Yet, during the Jan. 6 event, Cruz tweeted, “Violence is always unacceptable. Even when enthusiasm is high.”

Senator Hawley responded to Cruz’s tweet and wrote, “The violence must end, those who attack police and break the law must be prosecuted, and Congress must get back to work and get the job done.”

On Jan. 7, U.S. Rep. Madison Cothorn of North Carolina said he “stood up and spoke out in defense of our Constitution and a fair election process” last night and “unequivocally condemned the violence inside the Capitol, which is not patriotism, but atrocity “

Sarah Longwell, executive director of the Republican Accountability Project, called for peace, law and order, but claimed that “these representatives and senators helped instigate the attack on the Capitol by spreading lies about the campaign.” She said, “They have proven that they are not fit to hold public office. They can’t get halfway to power.”

Senate Democrats have called on the Senate Ethics Committee (SEC) to investigate Hawley’s opposition to certifying Electoral College votes, and Breitbart News reported last week that Hawley has filed a countersuit against Senate Democrats. He wrote a letter in response to an ethics complaint filed by Senate Democrats against himself and Cruz, which reads.

“The idea that one senator can subject another senator to punishment, sanction, severe censure or even removal for disagreeing with another senator is completely antithetical to our idea of democracy and open, legitimate debate. But unfortunately, this way of thinking is consistent with the idea of the emerging mob, which is, when you encounter anyone who takes a different position, immediately cancel him.”

Hawley concluded, “Unfortunately, in this sense, your unfounded accusations typify today’s left-wing Culture of cancellation, a culture that tramples on the democratic traditions that the left and the right once united to defend.”
