Chicago catches $136,300 in counterfeit bills originally made in China

U.S. media outlet National Pulse reported Monday (Feb. 1) that U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials seized more than $100,000 in counterfeit bills, which were made in China.

Officials at the International Mail Facility (IMF) in Chicago discovered multiple shipments of counterfeit bills on Jan. 28. Customs and Border Protection said, “The first shipment contained 957 counterfeit $100 bills and 44 counterfeit $50 bills for a total of $97,900. In the second shipment, there were 384 counterfeit $100 bills.”

CBP seized a total of $136,300 in counterfeit bills “under the pretext of counterfeiting U.S. currency, coins, or government securities.

CBP said, “The shipment was destined for Auburn Hills, Michigan, and Independence, Missouri.
