Hong Kong people who have submitted their BNO visa applications online can complete the procedures at the visa application center with an appointment from now on. Our reporter visited one of the visa centers in North Point on the same day. Some applicants lamented that social events were one of the factors for leaving, and considered the BNO scheme a good opportunity to start a new Life.
Since Sunday (January 31), the UK allows BNO (British National Overseas Passport) holders and their families to apply online for visas to the UK to prepare for immigration and naturalization. Applicants can submit the required documents, photos and fingerprints at the Visa Application Centre with an appointment from now on to complete the relevant procedures.
Many families go to the UK visa center for procedures
Our reporter went to one of the UK visa centers located in the North Point Leeuwin Business Centre on Monday (1) to inspect the applicants, as they had already made an appointment to go through the procedures and carry out triage. The reporter saw that at least four families came to the center within an hour to go through the procedures, and there were also elderly people who came in person to inquire about the details. In order to cope with the possible increase in the flow of people, the UK Visa Center recently extended its opening hours to 7:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Visa applicants: national security law is one of the factors to consider leaving
The financial industry, Mr. Leung and his wife and two sons were studying in primary one and kindergarten on the first day to the British visa center for procedures, the reason is that the relevant documents have long been prepared, see the procedures can be handled immediately after coming. He expects to start traveling after the visa arrives. Leung said the reason for leaving Hong Kong is to get a better Education for children, that the current “duck and fill” education in Hong Kong is not ideal. In addition, he implied that the implementation of the “National Security Law” is one of the factors that prompted him to leave.
Leung said: With the National Security Law, Hong Kong is so safe, and we do not have to stay in Hong Kong to defend the country. So safe, no need to be afraid. I will go to the UK to experience life.
He expected to arrive in the United Kingdom, the current funds are enough to live one to two years before looking for work, and do not mind changing jobs. For some pro-establishment faction proposed the Nationality Act, targeting people who naturalized in the UK with BNO. Liang expects that if it is really implemented, I believe that when the Time comes, I would rather choose British citizenship, and frankly said “Chinese citizenship itself is given to me by him, and not my will”.
Mr. Lam, who has been in the education industry and has lived in Hong Kong for about 40 years, said in an interview with the station that the procedure was completed in about half an hour. He lamented that there will always be a feeling of reluctance to leave Hong Kong, but still choose to leave Hong Kong alone because they want to try to live in a foreign country, and this time the British visa is a good opportunity, relatively easy to apply for a more relaxed. He continued to say that social events are more or less one of the factors to consider.
Mr. Lam said: I believe that living in Hong Kong for many years, always have their own ideas about some things. This year so many things happened, their own thoughts will have a shock, in the end their own road should be how to go? At that time you can choose to stay in Hong Kong and continue to go, but if there was an opportunity for me to choose, I would choose to try to live in a foreign country.
Mr. Lam continued to say that there is always a sense of instability in the new environment, but I believe it will not last. He pointed out that the unemployment rate in each country is high, but there are still some jobs that people do not want to do. He believes that as long as you put your body down, you can always make a living.
For the Chinese side and the Hong Kong side no longer recognize BNO, he said he was not worried about not being able to leave the country, because depending on the destination is denied by BNO, the airline also has no reason not to recognize.
At present, people who go to the visa center in person must arrive in the UK within 90 days after being issued a visa. The British government will also open the mobile application in the middle of the month, in the mobile application people are not 90 days to the UK restrictions.
China and Hong Kong do not recognize BNO entry and exit Britain: BNO holders can enter with documents other than BNO
Last Friday (29th), Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian announced that since January 31, “China no longer recognizes the so-called BNO passport as a travel document and proof of identity.” The Hong Kong government followed suit and announced that it would no longer recognize the BNO as an identity document or travel document as of the same date. Airlines have asked passengers to have other documents to enter, leave and board the plane.
However, Prime Minister Johnson’s spokesman responded that anyone holding BNO status and their Family members could also use documents other than BNOs to enter the UK.
The United States and Canada have said that Hong Kong people can still use the BNO to enter the country.
