The pneumonia (novel coronavirus disease, COVID-19) Epidemic in Wuhan is still difficult to control around the world, and officials from the South Korean Ministry of health said that the social distance measure will be extended for at least 2 more weeks because of the fear that the infection may surge again during the Lunar New Year.
Kang Do-tae, deputy minister of health, today (31) called on people to stay Home during the Lunar New Year and strictly prohibit private gatherings of more than five people until the end of the holiday on February 14.
For the next 2 weeks, the Seoul metropolitan area will also continue to restrict indoor dining, and restaurants will only be able to provide take-out service after 9 p.m.
Kang Do-tae said the government is also concerned that the strict social restrictions will hurt businesses, so it may consider easing some of the restrictions after monitoring the spread of the virus for a week.
South Korea has 355 new cases today, bringing the cumulative number of cases nationwide to 78,205, including 1,420 deaths.
