Polish President Andrzej Duda signed the “Taiwan-Poland Agreement on Judicial Cooperation in Criminal Matters”, and the Polish side has now completed the relevant domestic procedures. The agreement covers five major areas, including mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, extradition, transfer of sentenced persons, sharing of legal and practical insights, and sharing of information on crime prosecution and crime prevention.

After four years of consultation, the Taiwan-Poland Agreement on Judicial Cooperation in Criminal Matters was signed in June 2019 by representatives of both sides at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and witnessed by Foreign Minister Wu Chiu-sup, Minister of Justice Tsai Ching-hsiang, and visiting Polish Under Secretary of Justice Lukasz Piebiak, and now, through the joint efforts of both governments, it has been officially signed by the President of Poland. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) sincerely welcomes the signing.

Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Poland is the first country in Europe to sign a judicial cooperation agreement with Taiwan. It is expected that Taiwan and Poland will strengthen the fight against transnational crime, enhance judicial cooperation, and fully protect people’s rights based on the common values of respect for human rights and the rule of law on both sides.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is also pleased to see that Taiwan and Poland have completed the procedures related to the Taiwan-Poland Agreement on Judicial Cooperation in Criminal Matters in recent years, following agreements such as the Taiwan-Poland Agreement on the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Taiwan-Poland Agreement on Cooperation in Scientific and Higher Education, and will continue its efforts to allow Taiwan and Poland to build on this good foundation and further deepen their partnership.
