The National Archives reported on Jan. 30 that Elon Musk tweeted on Thursday (28), mocking the Biden administration’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), saying they were incompetent and had delayed Musk’s manned Mars exploration. Not coincidentally, Biden’s Justice Department then announced that Musk’s Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) was under investigation.
After Biden’s Federal Aviation Administration delayed SpaceX’s test flight, Musk tweeted, “The FAA’s aviation division is not bad, and their space sector regulation, is fundamentally flawed in its structure. Under their regulations, our company has access to only a few existing government launch sites and can only conduct a handful of launches per year. Under these regulations, humans will never reach Mars.”
Unfortunately, just six hours later, news came out that the Justice Department was investigating SpaceX for allegedly discriminating against non-U.S. citizens in the way Musk’s company hires. That’s because there have been complaints that SpaceX prefers to hire U.S. citizens.
The story goes roughly like this, the U.S. Department of Justice’s Immigration and Employee Rights Section received an allegation of employment discrimination from a non-U.S. citizen last May, claiming that SpaceX discriminated against him because he was a non-U.S. citizen.
Lisa Sandoval, an attorney for the Justice Department, wrote in court documents filed Thursday (28), “The Department of Justice’s Immigration and Employee Rights Section received an employment discrimination charge last May from a non-U.S. citizen who alleged that on or about March 10, 2020, he attended an interview for a technical strategy position at SpaceX. assistant position, the company asked about his status but ultimately failed to hire him because he was not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. “
The Justice Department’s Immigration and Employee Rights Section, on June 8 of last year, requested information and documents from SpaceX regarding the hiring and employment eligibility verification process. SpaceX sent the DOJ electronic records of the I-9 (Employment Eligibility Verification) form in August, including data for 2019, but the company refused to provide supporting documents such as copies of the employee’s passport, driver’s license or Social Security card,” the indictment states. The Immigration and Employee Rights Section believes that the supporting documents requested in the subpoena and the complaints received are relevant and reflect the extent to which SpaceX employs non-U.S. citizens.
The U.S. Department of Justice is currently seeking a court order requiring SpaceX to comply with the subpoena and provide the relevant information to the Immigration and Employee Rights Section within two weeks. Netizens find it ironic that the U.S. Department of Justice is investigating U.S. companies for their preference to hire U.S. citizens.
Musk and SpaceX have not commented on the DOJ investigation, instead showing more photos of SpaceX.
On Tuesday, Musk also backed common stockholders to buy GameStop, AMC and other modal stocks, financially compressing the elite’s hedge funds.
