Johns HopkinsUniversity statistics show that the number of untreated cases of Coronavirus Infection 2019 (COVID-19) in California rose to 40,240 today, surpassing the 40,000 mark and ranking 2nd highest among all U.S. states, second only to New York State.
The Associated Press reports that the number of deceased patients in California is climbing at a record pace as the previously dramatic increase in confirmed cases begins to taper off.
After a recent decline in the number of new diagnoses and hospitalizations in California, the number of deaths from the Epidemic is climbing at a record pace. It took six months for California to reach 10,000 untreated cases, then four months to double to 20,000 deaths, then only five weeks to 30,000 deaths, and another 20 days to exceed 40,000 deaths.
New York State has confirmed that more than 43,000 people have died of the disease, topping all states in the country, followed by California with more than 40,000, Texas with 36,000 and Florida with 26,000.
Russian authorities reported today that there are 19,032 new confirmed cases of 2019 coronavirus disease in the country, bringing the official national total to 3,820,000. In addition, the mayor of the capital Moscow, Sobyanin, declared that more than half of the city’s population has been infected with the disease.
Russian authorities noted that 512 more people have died in the past 24 hours, bringing the official total number of deaths from Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) to 72,697.
In an interview with Russian television channel Rossiya1, Sergei Sobyanin was quoted in an earlier Tass report as saying that more than half of Moscow’s citizens have been infected with the coronavirus.
Sobyanin said, “More than half of the population of Moscow has been infected.”
According to Johns Hopkins University data, the cumulative total number of confirmed cases reported by Russian authorities is currently the fourth highest in the world, after the United States, India and Brazil.
