The University of Los Angeles (UCLA) has a record number of applicants for the 2021 academic year, about 28 percent higher than in 2020, reaching nearly 140,000 applications. Among the applicants’ ethnicity, African-Americans saw the highest increase of 48 percent, while Hispanics saw a 33 percent increase. Youlonda Copeland-Morgan, vice provost of enrollment management at LAUSD, believes that the large increase in applications is related to the fact that standardized test scores are no longer required at LAUSD.
The number of Asian and white students applying to L.A. is also on the rise, at 22 percent and 35 percent, respectively. Of all applicants, California residents had the largest increase of 28 percent.
LASU will notify students of their admissions decisions on April 1, and accepted students will have until May 1 to complete their ancestral records.
