A few days ago, the lack of Food and food cuts in Tonghua City, Jilin Province sparked strong social concern, has it been solved now? Some local residents revealed that the authorities have only arranged to send vegetables once; and if you buy them yourself, you can only buy high-priced vegetables online, and there is no guarantee of delivery, and some people’s families are almost out of food again.
Blockade without warning
Chen Lei (a pseudonym), who lives on Democracy Street in Tonghua’s Dongchang District, told the Epoch Times that there was a secondary close contact of the Tonghua “patient zero” in his unit.
On Jan. 14, the community “grid officer” (the person in charge of the designated area) called and asked Chen Lei to go for a nucleic acid test. When he returned Home, the cell block was sealed without any notice or preparation.
“It is understandable,” said Chen Lei, “fear of causing panic, which has to understand the government, if the city is closed, the people are not all anxious, have to go to buy food, that does not create pressure on the government?”
Immediately after, the households were done a second nucleic acid test, and then one after another to seal the district; and then a third nucleic acid test, and then sealed the household.
Blockade 15 days to send food once and soon to cut off food
The next thing that happened, let Chen Lei can not continue to “understand”.
“unexpected things, may be a little too busy, we can understand. But so far, it’s been 15 days, just one delivery of vegetables. He said, “A bundle of garlic moss, two roti, three carrots, a cabbage, three round onions (onions), four bags of hanging noodles.”
And, this was delivered on January 26, the day after the Communist Party’s CCTV host Bai Yansong went after the mayor of Tonghua, Li Ping.
The explanation Li Ping gave at the Time was that there were too many orders in a short period of time, and the online platform became ineffective due to congestion online; for offline delivery, there was insufficient capacity for community staff to enter homes due to the strict closed management.
He added that “the residents of the high-risk area Dongchang District closed management of 110,000 households, we strive to give them all distribution in place before 12:00 p.m. today.”
Chen Lei disclosed that the government delivered the food and then disappeared. He now saves as much as he can, mainly caring for his children. He said, “A day to eat two meals, yesterday I ate a meal, have to be tight for the children to eat ah, if I chatter all to eat, then the children eat what ah.”
“Just me and my son, our family can still sustain two to three days. My friend’s family can’t. My friend’s family has one cabbage and one radish left today, and they have four people, but his family has no vegetables. My son and I eat less ah.”
Online shopping prices are oddly high with a minimum consumption threshold
In addition to waiting hard for the authorities to deliver, residents can also place orders for food in the WeChat group, only the price is scary expensive.
Chen Lei said, “not that online report, what meat, eggs and milk are not lacking. Thirty dollars a catty, where to buy? We also do not have money, can not buy. Three pork claws for 100 yuan, I am laughing.”
Chen Lei’s family is difficult. He used to do decades of drug sales in the field as a temporary worker, no five insurance and a pension. Three years ago, his Parents fell ill, he quit his job and came home, spent all his savings for his parents’ medical treatment, and owed foreign debts, but his parents still left.
Last summer, his wife also left home, leaving him alone with his son, who had just started junior high school.
“(Last year) September my son just started school, I remember clearly, the family did not have a penny, to my worry, I began to sell salted duck eggs.” Chen Lei said, “in the summer when selling some salted duck eggs downstairs, winter thinking about doing some small business, not waiting to do which, began to close the city. End, the money is betting on the goods, winter I want to sell some frozen goods, just after the goods, can not be sold.”
In addition, Chen Lei lumbar osteophytes compressed nerves, walking with crutches. But he went to apply for low income insurance in such a condition was rejected, “said not enough level.”
“That day there was a big aunt who bought scallions, I asked her, (said) three scallions for twenty dollars. I laughed, can only laugh, that can say what ah.” He said.
In addition, the local online order also set a minimum spending threshold, you have to buy enough 50 or 100 yuan to give delivery. Chen Lei said, “like us (buy) less, our family now I and my son two, onion, ginger, garlic are gone, soy sauce is gone, there is salt at home, there is half a barrel of oil, I think and so (get enough money) together.”
Another big problem with online shopping is that many older people simply do not use WeChat and do not know how to pay online.
Chen Lei’s district is a shantytown transformation, remote location, living more elderly, young people less. “A talk with WeChat or something, the elderly they do not understand. So that we are neighbors to help each other. Just say who wants to buy food, my family buy food you guys who buy something ah, help shout, do not help shout not.”
Community personnel difficult to contact households difficult to get supplies
Chen Lei said he was most angry that he could not contact the community grid workers. “Our unit, surprisingly, two days to shout the grid operator did not shout people. As soon as they shouted for someone, they gave you a phone call, (so) you could contact him (someone).”
For the people in the blocked households, the grid clerks are crucial because they directly direct the volunteers who distribute the supplies. On one occasion, Ray Chen went downstairs and called out to a passing volunteer delivering groceries.
“He said, you have to contact that gridman, and the gridman presses volunteers to you individually. I said, “We can’t get through to the grid operator’s phone,” he said, “There’s no way, they can’t get through. I said what does that mean, that means we have to rush out? Then the volunteers gave us the food. Otherwise, we couldn’t have eaten that day (26th).”
Chen Lei and his neighbors were also anxious to find the grid workers because the volunteers did not actually deliver the supplies to their destination.
“The first time the vegetables were delivered, (community) volunteers were not coming, we shouted, shouted is our neighborhood volunteers came in and delivered to us.” He said, “Our community has that ordered some dishes online, people to send to the card point, sent to the card point after these volunteers will push each other, afraid (infection) ah, no one to send us.” Chen Lei said.
However, the card point is still two bus stops away from the community.
“I want to say now, this grid member, can you really listen to the people’s appeal in this group, he can not answer?”
In addition, households sometimes call for help from police officers in the neighborhood, so they can find a volunteer. Chen Lei said, but “they said, this matter they can not manage.”
“Just send food, don’t ask for anything else.”
The Epidemic blockade, Dalian, Shijiazhuang and other places and the public “shouting building” to vent their grievances, the phenomenon of expressing their demands.
Chen Lei said, “We do not shout building, when many people are saying (this will bring negative impact on) Tonghua, we feel that after all is their hometown, do not say these things, the first asked me when I also said Tonghua is good. I don’t even want to talk to you, this evening is really very angry, shouting grid clerk shouting can not be.”
In addition, the tenants call 12345 convenient hotline has not been able to get through. “I don’t know how many numbers beyond the line to you, are playing.”
Chen Lei said he did not know how the supplies of other families, “anyway, our family is missing, because many online shopping we can not use.”
He also does not know what to do after the start of spring. “What I want to express most now is that the gridman hurry to answer the phone. The grid clerk is the community, how many people look for the community, the phone can not be reached.” He said, “I just hope to hurry up and send us food on the line, do not ask for anything else, do not dare to ask for anything else, too extravagant.”
