The upper reaches of the Yangtze River Jialing River and its two tributaries Dongdu River, Qingni River was recently found to have abnormal concentrations of thallium in the water, the river water was blood red, Gansu and Shaanxi border areas even once exceeded 1.7 times the standard. China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment on Thursday (28) informed the source of the pollution, basically determined to be Gansu Factory Dam non-ferrous metals limited liability company into the state zinc smelter, Shaanxi Loyang Iron and Steel Limited Liability Company respectively caused.
For the cause of the pollution, the official website of Loyang County Government issued an announcement on the same day, referring to the thallium in the raw material of iron ore of Liao Steel Company, which was enriched to soot ash and ground dust collection during the production process, and the thallium-containing pollutants entered the Dongdu River through the rainwater ditch of the plant, thus causing the abnormal concentration of thallium.
