Long arm to control Hong Kong CCP sends more manpower to Hong Kong

Hong Kong media reports say Beijing has assigned 100 additional people to the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Hong Kong over the past year in a bid to strengthen its supervision of the city.

Hong Kong’s English-language media South China Morning Post reported Friday (Jan. 29), citing sources, that China has transferred about 200 people to the Liaison Office in Hong Kong over the past year, with 100 of them being additional staff. Beijing’s move is aimed at strengthening its supervision and policy implementation in Hong Kong.

The Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (LOCPG) is the representative office of the Chinese government (State Council) in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The source added that the need for more staff in the Liaison Office is due to the additional responsibilities Beijing has given it. These include ensuring that Hong Kong is “ruled by patriots.

Chinese President Xi Jinping said during a video presentation by Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam on Jan. 27 that the “rule by patriots” must always be upheld. Xi did not mention “Hong Kong people ruling Hong Kong with a high degree of autonomy.

The source also told the newspaper that many of them were chosen because of their skills in areas such as social media.

The report quoted another source as saying that before they arrived in Hong Kong, they all attended a briefing in Shenzhen, where it was mentioned that “the liaison office now promotes a down-to-earth style of work and that compliance with (Communist Party) discipline is a top priority.

The report also said the men were vaccinated with the new crown vaccine in Shenzhen.

Internet media Hong Kong 01 reported that some informed sources said that the change of team was not a “firing”, but a desire for “new personnel, new style”, with a new approach to Hong Kong’s political and economic livelihood issues.
