More than two dozen Republican senators have requested a meeting with President Biden to discuss the new administration’s recent executive orders and regulatory actions, policies they fear, could have a devastating impact on American families involved in the energy industry.

In a letter to Biden, the 26 senators, most of whom are from the Economic Growth and Jobs Council, wrote that they were “surprised” by the president’s actions, which could put “hundreds of thousands” of energy jobs in their states at risk. Most of these senators come from states that are highly dependent on the oil and gas industry for economic growth and jobs.
“Your actions will have serious consequences for our constituents, taking these actions in the first week of your presidency without listening to us, the hard-working Americans we represent, and these actions run counter to the aspirations of the American people who want practical, bipartisan solutions to our nation’s challenges and policies that support policies for working families.” the letter reads.
Senators, including Senate Energy Committee Chairwoman Lisa Murkowski (D-CA), specifically took issue with the cancellation of the $8 billion Keystone XL pipeline project.
Senators also objected to the moratorium on oil and gas drilling in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR), one of Biden’s first actions as president.
“At your inauguration, you pledged to represent all Americans, including those who live in our states,” the letter continues, “and the best path to true unity is to work together to find solutions for each other’s environments. We stand ready to work with you and your nominees to address the challenges facing our nation, including working for a cleaner future and protecting our hard-working men and women.”
