Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada.
On Tuesday (Jan. 26), Canada’s National Research Council submitted a report to Parliament. The report shows that only a week after Canada and the Chinese Communist Party signed an agreement to collaborate on a vaccine last May, the Chinese government blocked samples of the vaccine that were to be exported to Canada. Canada’s Conservative Party and experts have criticized the Justin Trudeau government’s choice to work with the Chinese Communist Party as “dancing with the wolves” and foolish.
According to a report submitted by the National Research Council of Canada, on May 12 of last year, the federal health Canada approved the country’s vaccine collaboration with Chinese company CanSino Biologics. But only a week after the agreement was signed, on May 19, Communist Party customs seized vaccine samples at the Beijing airport that CanSino was sending to Canada. On the same day, the Canadian government announced a “change in cooperation,” but did not specify why, and only in late August did it acknowledge that the cooperation with the Chinese Communist Party had collapsed.
In response, Conservative Party leader Erin O’Toole, who has opposed the partnership, criticized the Trudeau government for putting the well-being of its citizens ahead of the untrustworthy Chinese regime.
O’Toole said the Chinese Communist Party has banned the export of vaccine samples to Canada in order to reap benefits from Canada, undermining Canadian vaccine development efforts. He noted, “Countless experts are asking why our government is putting the health of our citizens and our economy on the line for a regime that will affect our national security.”
Qiu Lilien, one of the Canadian representatives of the Global Taiwan Medical and Health Association and a professor of nursing at Langara College (Canada), said that the relationship between Canada and the Chinese Communist Party has been at an impasse since the Meng Wanzhou incident occurred. How could the Trudeau government be so foolish as to dance with the wolves and naively think that the vaccine collaboration was simply a commercial venture? How could the Chinese authorities not take advantage of this opportunity to retaliate against Canada when Conchino and the Chinese military have close ties?
Qiu Lilien criticized Trudeau for doing the wrong thing and not daring to admit and make amends in the first place, hurting the interests of all Canadians. She also pointed out that the Chinese Communist Party has infiltrated every part of Canada, “Look at our federal health officer, who waits for China to decide everything, putting our Canadian Destiny in China’s hands”.
Both the Canadian opposition and some experts also believe that the Canadian government injected a lot of research manpower and monetary capital upfront for the Consino vaccine, but in the end, the Chinese Communist Party unilaterally tore up the contract, affecting Canada’s timeline in vaccine development and management. They say that people have a right to know how much Canada has lost. What benefits were ensured by the original contract? When the Chinese Communist Party unilaterally banned the export of vaccines, did it ask Canada to release huawei‘s Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzhou? However, the Canadian government has yet to provide a clear answer on matters of national security and national health.
Separately, on Tuesday, Toronto-based biotech company Providence Therapeutics said it had developed a vaccine for the Chinese Communist Party virus (COVID-19) that had entered human clinical trials. The company has purchased space in Calgary as a site for future mass production of the vaccine.
