A new poll shows that House Republican Conference Congresswoman Liz Cheney’s political support in Wyoming has completely collapsed, as Republicans and a majority of all voters in the state want her to resign, U.S. media outlet Breitbart News reported Wednesday, Jan. 27.
John McLaughlin, Trump‘s pollster, surveyed 500 likely voters from Jan. 25 to Jan. 26, with U.S. media outlet Politico leading the charge. The survey results showed 73 percent of Republicans in Wyoming opposed Cheney Jr. and 62 percent of general voters statewide opposed Cheney Jr. Only 10 percent of Republican voters and 13 percent of general voters said they would still vote for Cheney Jr. Wyoming Senator Anthony Bouchard (D), who launched the campaign against Cheney Jr, received a high 54% approval rating to Cheney Jr’s 21%.
Within just two weeks of Cheney Jr. voting for the impeachment of former President Donald Trump, not only did he see his political fortunes unravel in Wyoming, but U.S. House Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Wyo.) even came from out of state to join the campaign against Cheney Jr. In addition, Cheney Jr. ran into even more trouble in the U.S. House Republican Conference.
Breitbart News previously reported that more than half of the House Republican Conference had signed a petition saying they would vote by secret ballot to remove Cheney Jr. from the conference chairmanship. House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), who opposes the Cheney-backed impeachment of Trump, said he supports Cheney Jr. continuing to serve, but believes Cheney Jr. must be held accountable for his actions.
Of the nine other House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump, McLaughlin wrote, “He believes that while Cheney has the highest profile and paid the greatest political price for it, the strong voter sentiment in this survey suggests that other Republicans who voted for impeachment could have a similar outcome.”
