Texas, known as the “Lone Star State,” has always had an “independent” mindset. But while there have been numerous pro-independence organizations and movements throughout history, Texans have been largely willing to maintain their isolation within the federal system for two hundred years.
Today the situation has changed. Following Texas’ unsuccessful lead challenge to the 2020 presidential election, the topic of “independence” is once again being raised, saying that Texans are tired of living under “unelected bureaucratic governance and federal laws”. “The people of Texas have the right to determine their own future”.
On Tuesday (Jan. 26), Texas U.S. Rep. Kyle Biedermann (R-Texas) introduced a bill calling for a referendum on Texans’ secession from the United States.
According to Gateway Pundit Media, House Bill 1359, also known as the Texas Independence Referendum Bill, would allow residents to vote on whether the Texas Legislature should create an interim joint commission to develop a plan for the state’s independence.
Biderman said the federal government has failed the people of Texas and that Texans should have the right to vote on whether to leave the union.
“This bill simply allows Texans to vote by referendum. This decision is too big to just be monopolized by our power brokers at the Capitol. We need the voices of Texans to be heard!” He said, “Texas voters of all political stripes agree on one thing, and that is that Washington, D.C., has been destroyed.”
Biderman further noted that the federal government has continually failed working-class Texans, seniors, taxpayers, veterans and small business owners. “For decades, our federal government has eroded the promise of America and our individual freedoms, and it’s Time to let the people of Texas decide their own future. This is not a matter of left-right politics, it is simply a matter of giving or denying the people of Texas the right to vote.”
The Texas Nationalist Movement says this bill will allow Texans to vote this November to redetermine Texas’ status as an independent state. If the people vote yes, this bill provides for a commission to be formed to begin working on a transition plan for independence and address issues related to decoupling from the federal government.
“This bill simply puts the issue in the hands of the people of Texas. Even if legislators don’t personally support Texas decoupling (TEXIT), they should at least support your (Texans’) right to have a public debate and vote on this issue.” Daniel Miller, president of the Texas Nationalist Movement, told The Gateway Pundit.
“The people of Texas are tired of living under 180,000 pages of federal law run by 2.5 million unelected bureaucrats, and when it comes down to it, the best people to govern Texas are Texans, and this vote will give us that opportunity.”
