2 million people vaccinated in two weeks! Confirmed diagnoses in India fall sharply

India has vaccinated 2 million health care workers in less than two weeks. In the past 24 hours, there have been 12,689 new cases of Wuhan pneumonia (novel coronavirus disease, COVID-19), a significant drop from the nearly 100,000 new cases every day in mid-September last year.

The number of deaths in India over the past 24 hours has dropped to 137 per day from a peak of 1,089 per day in September. In addition, since the outbreak, India has reached the 10.6 million mark of confirmed cases, the second largest infected country in the world after the United States with 25.43 million.

India began vaccinating healthcare workers on the 16th of this month in what could be the world’s largest vaccination campaign. India itself is the world’s largest producer of vaccines, and the Indian government hopes to get 300 million people vaccinated, including 30 million doctors, caregivers and other front-line workers.
